Never Let Down by Joe Stowell Devotional for disaster victims

When I was a child, one of my favorite pastimes was playing on the teeter-totter in the nearby park. A kid would sit on each end of the board and bounce each other up and down. Sometimes the one who was down would stay there and leave his playmate stuck up in the air yelling to be let down. But the cruelest of all tricks was getting off the teeter-totter and running away when your friend was up in the air—he would come crashing down to the ground with a painful bump. Sometimes we may feel that Jesus does that to us. We trust Him to be there with us through the ups and downs of life. However, when life takes a turn and leaves us with bumps and bruises, it may feel as if He has walked away leaving our lives to come painfully crashing down. But Lamentations 3 reminds us that “the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end” (v.22 esv) and that God is faithful to the end even when everything seems to be falling apart. This means that in the midst of our pain, even though we may be lonely, we are not alone. And though we may not feel His presence, He is there as our trusted companion who will never walk away and let us down! Thank You, Lord, that we can trust in Your faithful presence even when we feel alone. Help us to wait patiently for You to manifest Your steadfast loving presence. When everyone else fails, Jesus is your most trusted friend. Insight In Lamentations 3 we see the tribulations of God’s people. They are described in terms of physical suffering, painful injury, and imprisonment. Judah’s journey is portrayed in harrowing terms of terrible obstacles, wild animals, a wound to the heart, and bitter food. And the spiritual devastation can be seen in these words: “You have moved my soul far from peace” (v.17). Yet despite the despair of the moment, the promise of restoration and renewal are given: “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning” (vv.22-23).

God's Disaster-Preparedness kit The word for you today March April May

A phone call in the wee hours, a malignant tumor, a police cruiser at your door, a child addicted to drugs-if you live long enough you'll be confronted with "the day of disaster." And it's the strength of your relationship with God that will dictate your response. One author points out that God's "disaster-preparedness kit is found" in Psalm 31:24 NIV: Be strong. Because God is fighting for you. You must know God, know your convictions, and know how to tap into God's unlimited power. Don't let your pain shut you down. Take the broken pieces and offer them to God... chose to live with love. A closed heart isn't worth fighting for. Hope in the Lord. Put no stock in emotion, circumstances, or chitchat....Place your hopes and dreams at the altar.....No matter how long I've spent in God's workshop my progress is proven only in the moment of peril. We prepare in advance so our responses are involuntary... There isn't a situation, a temptation, or a question where Ephesians 6:10 doesn't apply: 'Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power' (NIV). God isn't telling you to be tough on your own.... rely on His strength and let Him do for you what He knows is best. In the day of my disaster.. The Lord was my support. 2 Sa 22:19 NIV

Power failures by Kenneth Manders

Matthew 17:14-16 John 17-unity Life can you let you down Dreams can turn into disasters Expectations for yourself and others can expire Church can experience highs like in Zion In the mountain there was excitement, valleys there were lows Mountains power fulfillment, valleys power failures We want to fit God into our plans when God already has a plan Preparation in life doesn't insulate or isolate you from power failures Failures seem most apparent when God is not in it You can belong but not be involved in the church Born once, die twice Born twice-repentance, die once Why we experience power failures? 1.) reminders of our own limitations 2.) open our eyes to nature of adversaries 3.) help us examine our relationship with God 4.) realized you have been entrusted with God's gifts 5.) Makes you realized what God can do
