Many a believer is moth balled also because they have not committed themselves to the being the disciples....trainees of the Lord Jesus Christ. With God's word in hand we can Jesus can train us too, as well has the twelve disciples to follow Him and carry out His work. In the beginning of Christ's ministry thousands followed Him, but in John 6:6 we see sad account that most "went back, and walked no more with Him." What a sad commentary, what a great opportunity was missed by these persons who thought other things more important that sitting at the Lord's feet and being taught by God Himself. I. Clearly, God wants the best for us and tells us we need to exercise discipline in our lives. In the Lord's school believers are our classmates and if we are to graduate we must learn to be disciplined in regard to other people. We cannot serve God without serving other people. Graduation services are called "commencements" and that is an appropriate name because graduation is not the end but the beginning of one's service to the Lord. Our training has a goal and a purpose. It teaches us how we can serve those around us. A. If we leaned our lessons well we have learned to properly relate to them. V1 This is a matter of discipline. Have you ever thought of it that way? We must learn to apply and practice biblical principles in order to be successful as the Lord's disciples. 1. Note that Paul loved them and called them "dearly beloved." This is agape love, the kind of love God has for each of us. It is the kind of love that Jesus had in going to that old rugged cross and there suffering and dying for our sins. It is a love that is freely given by God's grace and cannot be earned or merited. It is a love that we, following the Lord's example, give to others. It is our grace to others. 2. That love directed Paul to pray and care for each believer individually with agape love. That love is the love he received from Christ that he then gave to others. 3. He said he longed for them. Those we love we long for. Do you know that this term means..."To have an earnest, heartfelt desire, especially for something beyond reach." The Philippians were beyond's Paul's reach, but he deeply wanted to be with them. Why? When you love someone you want to be with them, you want the best for them. I think he too wanted to see them growing spiritually in the Lord so as to reap the blessings of God. John related his longing to be with believers that were far way in 2 John 1:4 "I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father." In 3 John 1:4 he again states this...." I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." 4. Paul said in Phil. 4:1 that he cared for their spiritual well being saying they were his, "my crown and joy." His crown refers to his honor. It is such a joy for a teacher to see their students graduate...learn and apply their lessons. The Lord is honored when His children serve Him. ILLUS: Some years ago there was a young pastor who took his first church. I was near by and we became fast friends. He asked lots of questions and wanted to learn. I begin teaching college classes at his church. I have be privilege to share God's word with him and my experience in the minister. I talked with him a number of months ago.....after not having any contact for several years. We talked about the ministry and about how God was working in his ministry. He then told me how much he appreciated the time I had spent teaching him and how it has helped him so much and had shaped his ministry. You know what? I know how Paul felt....it was joy to know he was serving the Lord and that I had helped. 5. He encouraged them to "Stand fast in the lord." Even if you learn the all the lessons of the Bible and know its principles well...it is no value unless you "stand fast in them" meaning that you commit yourself to them making them apart of your life. Often that requires great fortitude in the face of difficulties. You know...everyone does not accept the principles of God. Many will compromise them...try to water them down and make them more palatable able to folks in sin. As Paul declared in Galatians 1:10 teach God's truth and not be men pleasers. We are in a battle....a battle for saving truth...and when the shots are fired in our direction...we need to stand our ground and refuse to retreat. We are not looking for a fight....but we will not run under fire. B. The Graduate must learn to co-operate with others. 1. Two women were at odds in the Philippine church and if effected everyone....if one suffers the whole body suffers. 2. Eudoias' (u-door-us) who name meant "prosperous journey" and the other woman was Syntyche (sin-ty-key) which means "pleasant acquaintance" were having a dispute. It seems they were misnamed. Believers should be a help to each other and help with a prosperous journey and be a pleasant acquaintance....but sometimes folks get side tracked. 3. Paul pleads for unity in Philippians 2:1-4. You know it takes discipline to co-operate with others and it takes tack. 4. How do you test your spirituality? The Bible says a good barometer is how you react when you do not get your way, or get recognized for what you do? If pride is a motivating factor in our lives...it will quickly raise its head. It will absolutely rob you of your joy and can destroy your life. The person who has graduated...and learned his lessons from God's word knows pride is to be confessed as sin and repent of. C. The true graduate has learned to work with others. 1. Who was Paul's true "yokefellow?" Everyone needs someone to stand with you and be your friend. A fickle friend is a terrible thing to have. 2. Paul's yokefellow worked with him..that is what a yokefellow does. He shares in pulling the weight and burden. Some think it was Epaphroditus but we do not know. One thing we do know...Paul had confidence in this person's spirituality and ability to show love and bring reconciliation to those who were at odds. He asked the yokefellow help these folks in Paul's absence. ILLUS: Some years ago while working at youth camp in the summer there was a retired couple there who came to help. They were in their seventies and came as their own expense. They busied themselves fixing broken doors and repairing things. They did not have to be told what to do...if they saw something that needed fixing...it got fixed. They were retired...they could have said we have paid our dues and now we will rest...but thank the Lord they didn't They were surely a blessing to us all and a testimony of someone who not only knew the Word of God...but applied it daily. II. The true graduate in the Lord's school learns the value of being joyful. A. Paul in Phil. 4:4 instructs us to "rejoice in the Lord, always....and to make the point properly empathized says it again...Rejoice. 1. People who are rejoicing in the Lord do not have time or the inclination. 2. Rejoicing is a sure cure for depression, for pride, for hurt feelings, for feelings of being slighted and a host of other discouraging things. It is a hard lesson to learn...and it is hard to apply...but we most work at it. 3. You see school is not an end unto itself. Schooling is to prepare one for the challenges they will face in life. But if we stop learning....we will fail, because life is one continuous school and learning process. Even our failures are part of school. Did you ever fail a test...or get a bad grade because you didn't know the question? I tell my students that a test is a important as the lecture or the lesson. It either reinforces our training or teaches us lessons we did not completely learn. B. Phil. 4:6 is the place where the power is found. You will fail in the flesh...and even if you are successful in the flesh it is of no real value in God's program. 1. Paul says be "careful for nothing." In other words do not be so anxious about our present lives. We are to put our thoughts and minds toward important and eternal things. The hurts and failures of this life...will past away for the child of God and they are short lived. Don't get so emotionally worked up over such temporal things as our daily troubles. 2. God says pray....present your supplications to the Lord in prayer. Do it with thanksgiving. It will not be easy....but in time it will take away the hurt. Thank God for what He has given you...for salvation. Put daily problems in the right perspective...it is all under the blood of Christ. He too suffered greatly...but He was faithful. C. Here is the key to peace. Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Without the Lord there can be no real peace in our lives. There will always be disappointments and trouble of some kind...but if we pray, if we rejoice in the Lord and present our supplications in thanksgiving....we can have that peace. III. The Six Things that Will Keep us on the Right Track. Phil. 4:8-9 A. In verse 8, Paul says "finally." He sums up the whole matter to make it simple and easy to apply. He lists six objects we can focus on to live wholesome lives and each one is introduced by the statement "whatsoever." 1. True - That simply means which is God's word. You know we can trust the Lord in all things 2. Honest - That which is respectful, and dignified meaning worthy of respect. 3. Justice - That which is morally right. 4. Pure - That which is not corrupted or mixed with error or impurity. 5. Lovely - That which promotes peace. It pertains to being peaceable...no irritable, ill, bitter, holding urges, forgiving and giving others the benefit of the doubt. It means to see to have a good relationship with others. 6. Good Report - That which is reputable, commending, courteous, kind, respectful because a Christian should be a pattern and an example as to representing the love of Christ to others. 7. If there be any virtue. Virtuous means having high moral standards. Paul adds, that if there was anything else that had the nature of true virtue in it, they should be careful to cultivate that also. The Christian should be a pattern and example of every virtue. 8. And if there be any praise. Anything worthy of praise, or that ought to be praised. This is the opposite of being critical of others...looking for others faults. 9. Think on these things. Let them be the object of your careful attention and study and practice them. B. Whatsoever points us to the cure to have peace and joy in our lives....and to graduate with honors from God's school of life. Conclusion: The question this passage asked each of us....is do we want to graduate to an abundant life of peace and joy? God does not intend that His children live in the muck and mire of this world, but live to the highest standards. If the answer is yes...then we are to think right and do right...no matter what the consequences. Obey, God first and last and always. Never let the world, or circumstances rob you of God's blessings. Live on the highest plain of God's morality. We have a choice..... We can live with Christ and have Him direct us, strengthen and bless us.... or We can live without Him....do things our own way...live a defeated life allowing life's problem's and difficulties destroy us. The choice is ours.....But God's says....Live for Me and LIVE!

If your church's mission is not in-line with God's purpose-to save the lost, maybe you should look more into the activities, socials, time, effort, etc... that your church is doing

Hoodwinkers, swindlers, and wanna be city slickers

I don't understand why people are always putting on this act/character for people when they first meet them. The best time to be open front about a lot of issues so nobody wastes their time is when you first meet someone. It's hard now to find people are sincere and not motivated to gain something out of a relationship with you. I dislike the fact that you can find more sincere and better quality of people in larger cities than in the smaller ones. I am disgusted with these down low brothers or bisexual people who are not upfront to their partner/sex about their sexuality. It is their business because what you do effects them too. Ladies, you better check around that anus area-if there are wrinkles or if it looks like it has been puncture-don't sleep with him. Gang members who think they are in an organization and they it was formed with good intentions (for the community purposes might be true) but it's not true now-today. There are too many people being killed, too much fighting, and drugs being sold to call your "organization" good. This is a prime example of evil being called good. These are some rough times and we as true Christians need to pray for those proclaiming to know Christ but can't have honest relationships with people. If we (as Christians) know better, then we should do better. Let's stop professing and start doing-showing love, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, meekness, mercy, and compassion for our brothers-people.

What are y'all opinions on fraternities? I do not support foolishness-barking, licking, biting at individuals on campus. Also, the biggest things I do not support is branding-like they do the animals. It's almost like tattooing. If you are in it for the benefits, fine. Terrance J, Steve Harvey, and Rickey Smiley are in it and they have careers. I have too many bad experience at supposedly "after parties" to look at any of them in good lighting.

Prayer requests

Please Lord let me show love to the community, church, strangers, friends, and family members.Let me overlook people's sinful nature and continue to be faithful and your keep God's commandments. Please don't take Your Holy Spirit away from me. Let me test every man by their fruit and to not call evil good and good evil. I pray for black nation that will possible go extinct from murders and diseases like HIV. Pray for my "religious" family-friends, real family, and church members. Pray that I never become too old to be corrected because I feel that's "disrespectful". I know that God doesn't stop correcting until you're in the grave. Any people have prayer requests please comment below and we shall all pray for one another as Christians for healing, the needy and others like the unsaved. Don't want to debate over religion but do the activities of Jesus Christ while he was here on earth
